Good morning/afternoon ladies and gentleman. Today I am here to convince you without a doubt that abortion should be brought to an end. Points that I will be covering are the medical risks involved, economic support for the child, couples that do not have a chance to have a child and ¡K. The scientific definition of abortion is the termination of pregnancy of an embryo or of a fetus that is incapable of survival. There are over 131,000 abortions in Australia every year. Firstly: medical risks involved. Some short term or physical side effects such as: „X  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Infection „X  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Bleeding „X  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Perforation of the uterus „X  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Anaesthetic complications „X  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Deaths And as for that there are also long term side effects such as: „X  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Cervical incompetence, in which the neck of the womb loses its capacity to hold the developing foetus in place, and he or she falls out of the uterus because of their weight and the force of gravity „X  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Abortion is thus associated with higher rates of miscarriage in subsequent pregnancies, usually in the second twelve weeks „X  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Infection acquired at the time of the operation can cause pelvic infection, decreased patency of the fallopian tubes and sterility. „X  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Adhesion can cause recurring abdominal pain and sterility. „X  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  It is now known that women having abortions and considerably more likely to suffer from breast cancer later in their life. My second point is the economic support for the child: Why do people that don ¡Ã‚ ¦t want kids have to have an abortion? There are always other factors that you can come to such as adoption. In third world countries, the people have a right to have children but do they have the opportunity? If they did have a child, how would they support it through the poverty? They don ¡Ã‚ ¦t even have enough food and water to support themselves at the moment. This clearly indicates to support the child you must be economically healthy. In a country like our own, we have all the resources at our fingertips, and why do people still question and rely on abortion? If people had a child or two, or maybe even more, we will still have enough resources to support us and our child healthy and we have resources that the third-world countries don ¡Ã‚ ¦t have. My third point is how many couples do not have the chance to have a child: Many childless couples on the other hand face long waiting lists in the hope they can adopt. Some 50,000 Australian couples a year apply to adopt children.

History is by nature, an interpretive discipline Essay

With simplest words, history is the story of the human experience. While history teaching originally focused on the facts of political history such as wars and dynasties, contemporary history education has assumed a more integrative approach offering students an expanded view of historical knowledge that includes aspects different subjects, such as of geography, religion, anthropology, philosophy, economics, technology, art and society. This wider embrace is reflected in the vague but ubiquitous term, â€Å"social studies. History has no subject matter of its own. History derives its content entirely from other disciplines, especially from the social sciences. Before the disciplines of political science, economics, archeology and sociology had been invented, it was history that dealt with these realms of knowledge. Historians are the generalizers, the synthesizers. They look at an event or series of events and try to bring relevant knowledge from all fields to bear on understanding the situation. Viewed in this light, history is a verb, not a noun; it is more an approach than a subject. This approach is sometimes termed the â€Å"historical method,† which generally involves trying to identify all relevant information about an historical development, critically examining sources for validity and bias, then selecting and organizing this information into a well-constructed narrative that sheds some light on human experience. History is not static; our views of history are constantly changing as new discoveries are made that cast doubt on previous knowledge. New interpretations of historical events frequently come along to challenge older views. Was the Viatnam War really worth of? Or was Ronald Ragan the grand statesman of his age or a less admirable figure? Such newer, alternative explanations are termed revisionist history. The historian, following the historical method, tries to determine if the evidence is real, accurate or biased. After making these judgments, the historian selects some evidence to include in his narrative, and he rejects other sources. The finished product reflects the judgments, point-of-view, biases and errors of the historian himself. This is a highly subjective process throughout. But it should be remembered that history did happen, and without it we would be largely ignorant of the workings of the world and of the human animal. Conscientious historians are aware of the pitfalls in their search for historical truth, and they try to avoid them. Students who are aware of the inherent limitations of history will be better prepared to evaluate the validity of historical evidence and historical accounts and consequently more adept at evaluating the conflicting evidence and opinions surrounding the important issues of their own time. Thus the study of history can teach many critical skills. That is, studying history helps sharpen the critical â€Å"thinking† and communication skills essential to success in school and in most professions.

The process automatically eliminates incompetent bidders as only contractors with a proven track record are enlisted, invited and selected from. As the Head of the Electrical Mechanical En gineering department, I can be unethical and promote prejudice in the workplace by only enlisting companies which I like without properly assessing their track record amongst other facts. This would effectively mean that any companies which for one or other reason I do not favour, would not be enlisted and therefore not stand a fair chance of competing against others for the contract. The prejudice approach above would result in the following: Inhibition of growth towards smaller companies Counter productivity as certain companies would be overloaded with work whilst others would have little or no work Inequality towards companies not listed as they would be labelled as incompetent In order to prevent or reduce prejudice in the workplace the list of companies chosen are circulated within the firm for inputs and comments from relevant parties, ensuring that the onus is not placed upon one individual to choose from. Furthermore contractors are also technically assessed at the end of each project in order to categorise them according to the latest performance. Contractors who do not consistently perform are therefore also automatically eliminated.
