Looking specifically at the pipeline amongst individuals with disabilities, it is evident that the population of those with disabilities is highly overrepresented within the prison system (Elias, 2013). Part of understanding the pipeline involves understanding the prevalence of minorities in the pipeline, looking at schools zero tolerance policies and knowing what teachers can do in order to diminish the pipeline. When students are enrolled in special education classes that do not have a disability, or hat would benefit more from being involved with inclusion programs, they have a higher chance of drop out and entrance into the pipeline (Togut, 2012). Zero tolerance policies effect all students as well as minorities when it comes to the school to prison pipeline. Zero Tolerance Policy An idea that at first sounds like a good one, a concept that makes children and their parents feel safe, a term that has life devastating backlash and consequences, is the infamous Zero-Tolerance Policy. When the topic is brought up about the school-to- prison pipeline, the majority of articles will also mention this policy and its negative ffects on the issue. When the policy gets implemented under the wrong hands, it can have devastating effects. Years ago, misbehavior could be seen as kids being kids. Taking control away from teachers and placing it in the hands of law enforcement also reduces the level of respect for teachers and school administrators (Chongmin Na Denise C. Gottfredson, 2011). Once students enter the Juvenile detention system, chances for them to succeed decline dramatically. Systems tend to be focused on keeping them from worse rather than putting them on the right track to succeed. Simple acts such as school pranks misinterpreted can lead even a straight a student into the prison system, and once they are in the system, it becomes very difficult to get out and stay out. It is even more difficult for students with disabilities that get into the system to get out due to factors such as difficulty learning in school, lack of inclusion, and confidence issues. Students with disabilities re twice as likely to be suspended, and 70% of issues regarding behavior with individuals with disabilities result in physical restraint (Halkett, 2012). Although there have been devastating effects of the zero tolerance policy and school to prison pipeline, educators can prevent them. Teacher Influence Teachers have a big opportunity to do their part in diminishing the pipeline. Teachers know their students, and have the ability to help them learn and love school (Elias, 2013). Teachers need to care enough about their students and be a good role seen as an enjoyable place to be to begin with, and when that school environment is aired with difficulty learning, bullying, and lack of integration due to a disability, it becomes a toxic environment. Teachers have the ability to make school an enjoyable place to be. For high school students, graduating needs to be an exciting goal. When students with disabilities are expected to have a low paying Job and low success whether they graduate or not, many students find that there is little ambition to graduate. Teachers have the responsibility of teaching their students that this is not the case, and that graduating is a great and powerful accomplishment. My third point is how many couples do not have the chance to have a child: Many childless couples on the other hand face long waiting lists in the hope they can adopt. This wider embrace is reflected in the vague but ubiquitous term, ââ¬Å"social studies. History has no subject matter of its own. History derives its content entirely from other disciplines, especially from the social sciences. Before the disciplines of political science, economics, archeology and sociology had been invented, it was history that dealt with these realms of knowledge. Historians are the generalizers, the synthesizers. They look at an event or series of events and try to bring relevant knowledge from all fields to bear on understanding the situation. Viewed in this light, history is a verb, not a noun; it is more an approach than a subject. This approach is sometimes termed the ââ¬Å"historical method,â⬠which generally involves trying to identify all relevant information about an historical development, critically examining sources for validity and bias, then selecting and organizing this information into a well-constructed narrative that sheds some light on human experience. History is not static; our views of history are constantly changing as new discoveries are made that cast doubt on previous knowledge. New interpretations of historical events frequently come along to challenge older views. Was the Viatnam War really worth of? Or was Ronald Ragan the grand statesman of his age or a less admirable figure? Such newer, alternative explanations are termed revisionist history. The historian, following the historical method, tries to determine if the evidence is real, accurate or biased. After making these judgments, the historian selects some evidence to include in his narrative, and he rejects other sources. The finished product reflects the judgments, point-of-view, biases and errors of the historian himself. This is a highly subjective process throughout. But it should be remembered that history did happen, and without it we would be largely ignorant of the workings of the world and of the human animal. Conscientious historians are aware of the pitfalls in their search for historical truth, and they try to avoid them. Students who are aware of the inherent limitations of history will be better prepared to evaluate the validity of historical evidence and historical accounts and consequently more adept at evaluating the conflicting evidence and opinions surrounding the important issues of their own time. Thus the study of history can teach many critical skills. That is, studying history helps sharpen the critical ââ¬Å"thinkingâ⬠and communication skills essential to success in school and in most professions.

Leaders need to consult case studies of past and present leaders and investigate amongst others downfalls, conflicts and or resolutions, good or bad decisions made, etc. One does not need to reinvent the wheel as life lessons have already taught us where we have faltered, where we have waivered and where we have succeeded. âThe word prejudice refers to prejudgment, or forming an opinion before becoming aware of the relevant facts of a case.à ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã Prejudice reflects back to our VABEà ¢Ã¢â ¬Ã¢â ¢s. A lot of times when one does not understand oneself and others, you automatically (instinctively) lead to prejudice assumptions. By promoting prejudice, you are in fact inhibiting growth and promoting counter productivity because you choose to judge before determining the facts. I will refer to an example in my current position as Head: Electrical Mechanical Engineer in consulting engineering and project management firm. Under normal circumstances in order to level the playing field and avoid prejudice, all government related projects are allocated according to a process of public tender, subsequent adjudications and eventually awarding of contract. In irregular situations some projects are regarded as urgent and to prevent delays therefore bypass the normal process of public tender, in contrast to be processed by way of a closed invitational tender system. The closed invitational tender system involves the invitation of a list of contractors carefully selected by the principal engineer. The process automatically eliminates incompetent bidders as only contractors with a proven track record are enlisted, invited and selected from. As the Head of the Electrical Mechanical En gineering department, I can be unethical and promote prejudice in the workplace by only enlisting companies which I like without properly assessing their track record amongst other facts. This would effectively mean that any companies which for one or other reason I do not favour, would not be enlisted and therefore not stand a fair chance of competing against others for the contract. The prejudice approach above would result in the following: Inhibition of growth towards smaller companies Counter productivity as certain companies would be overloaded with work whilst others would have little or no work Inequality towards companies not listed as they would be labelled as incompetent In order to prevent or reduce prejudice in the workplace the list of companies chosen are circulated within the firm for inputs and comments from relevant parties, ensuring that the onus is not placed upon one individual to choose from. Furthermore contractors are also technically assessed at the end of each project in order to categorise them according to the latest performance. Contractors who do not consistently perform are therefore also automatically eliminated.
